Light at the end of the (moving) tunnel!

Hello!

No, I didn't die or quit art or anything so dramatic.... I just moved!  Since February of this year, we've been preparing our house for market, packing up excess "stuff", staging the house, putting our house on the market, SELLING our house in 6 days, finding and buying a new house, then packing, packing, and more packing, and finally, in the beginning of June.... we SETTLED!

It's been a whirlwind year for sure, but things are finally starting to settle down.  Most of our things have been moved into the new house (except for a 10' x 10' storage unit, which incidentally contains about HALF of my studio), and most of the boxes have been unpacked, or re-stored.

Wanted to share some pix of the studio, as it was when we first saw the house, and how it looks now.  Here's the pix from the original listing... a gorgeous, huge sunny room with yucky mauve-tone berber carpet... love the room... the carpet?  Not so much...

And here's some pix as it looks now... the entrance... check the new flooring! We decided to go with a laminate for ease of maintenance.  I like the color a lot - sort of like Tim's "gathered twigs" distress ink....

... looking to the right....

... and looking to the left....

... and here's a little tour around the room.... my new work desks... GALANT from IKEA.  The tables have since been raised up so the ALEX drawer units slide underneath on casters.

... moving to the left side of the room, past the sliding doors... more storage and a nice big wall for future art... I'm determined to only hang art that I MAKE... (and most of those boxes in the center of the room have now been unpacked...it's a work in progress).

... further around to the left... another window... MORE storage...

And back to the entrance... LOVE the french doors... and I especially love that little British phone booth that Jack found for me at an antique store... makes me happy!

... and finally...the front corner of the room... paper storage cubes... this corner of the room gets the least amount of light so thought it would be best for card stock so it doesn't get too bleached out by the sunlight.

... and here's my view of the back yard... loads of green, trees, flowers, leaves... sketching opportunities abound....

...OH... and see that brown shed in the corner of the yard?  It's divided into two sections... the left hand side will (eventually) become my very own... POTTERY BARN!  Yes, folks, I have a pottery wheel and a kiln and used to have a pottery studio in our old house, but had to give it up for more mixed media space (it sort of took over!).  I'm thrilled that I'll be able to get back to pottery!  It's just a small matter of getting the right electric line run for the kiln, and cleaning out a massive collection of spider webs, etc...  One step at a time... maybe this fall... or next spring... we'll see...

That's where we are... so far... still a lot more boxes coming in from the storage unit - hopefully they'll be here in the next week or two, depending on when the movers are available.  I'll keep posting pix as we make our way to the finish line.

Thanks for hanging in there with me while we make this life transition. It's WAY more work than I ever thought it would be, and much more all-consuming.  But we're almost there!  Be back soon with more pix and eventually I'll even have ALL my stuff so I can make some ART!

Hope you're all well and having a good summer.  See you soon.

~ ellen.
